Low-Income Household Water Assistance Progam
The Village of Platte Center is happy to announce the participation in the Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP)
- LIHWAP provides water assistance for households, whereas the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides home energy assistance for households. Water assistance includes all charges and fees related to drinking water and/or wastewater services.
- DHHS will administer the program and determine eligibility for the households.
- To qualify, a household must meet the income requirements, citizenship requirements, residency requirements, be responsible for paying for water utility services, and have a past due balance for water services.
o The income limit for assistance is 150% of the federal poverty level.
o Households are not required to have been impacted by COVID-19 to be eligible.
o Households are not required to include children, elderly individuals, disabled individuals, or other vulnerable individuals to be eligible.
- LIHWAP funds will be used to assist households whose water utilities are disconnected or that have a past due balance.
This service is expected to be implemented in February 2022.
